This is one of our non-Explorers Cove sites.

One of the intriguing things about Explorers Cove foraminifera is that many of them seem to be found only in the cove itself. Even nearby sites such as Gneiss Point have significantly different foraminiferal assemblages.

For sites outside the Cove, we bring as much equipment as possible in by land--but air support takes some of the burden off our shoulders.

Gneiss Point sediments are much finer than those we find in the Cove. Different species of foraminifera prefer different grain sizes to build their tests, and we are investigating whether this has an effect on what forams live in which locations.
