I am excited to offer free lectures and demonstrations for K-12 science
or social studies classes. The following topics are available, and I encourage
teachers to suggest ways to meld them with their lesson plans. If you're
interested, email me at bowser@wadsworth.org.
Grades K-4
- Undersea Creatures (slides; life on coral reefs)
- Life in Antarctica (slides, specimens & equipment demo; from penguins
to people)
- Working Underwater (slides, equipment demo, diving stories, plus demonstrations
of buoyancy)
- Story Time (Reading children's science books authored by fellow scientist
Brian Bett)
Grades 4-6
Modified to present some underlying principles of science:
- Undersea Creatures (slides; life on coral reefs: environmental adaptations)
- Life in Antarctica (slides, specimens & equipment demo; from penguins
to people - how to survive the cold!)
- Working Underwater (slides, equipment demo, diving stories, plus demonstrations
of buoyancy)
Grades 6-9
Modified to present more detailed information and illustrating the integration
of various scientific disciplines (biology, geology, oceanography):
- Life in Antarctica (slides, specimens & equipment demo; from penguins
to people - how to survive the cold!)
Grades 9-12
Modified to include underlying concepts, as well as information on career
paths in science:
- Working in Antarctica (slides, specimens & equipment demo)
Of interest to K-12 Teachers
