AMP-activated protein kinase (AMPK) is a crucial energy sensor in cells, composed of α, β, and γ subunits. The α subunit exists in two isoforms: α1 and α2. The α2 isoform, encoded by the PRKAA2 gene, plays a significant role in regulating metabolic pathways, including lipid and glucose metabolism.
